Much of the area is the part of the 7,000-acre Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge, with six miles of nature trails, perfect for nature and wildlife viewing, but you will also find great beach property. Beachfront homes and cottages, along with a few beach resorts, like the Beach Club and Gulf Shores Plantation are dotted along the peninsula. Looking for a great golf community then The Peninsula or Kiva Dunes might be what you are looking for, with their manicured greens and secluded scenery.

The Fort Morgan Historic site is at the tip of Mobile Bay, at the western end of State Route 180. Active during four major wars, the fort had a large role during the Civil War in the Battle of Mobile Bay in August of 1864. The famous quote, “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead,” was spoken in the waters just off the shore of the fort by Admiral David Farragut. The site is rich in history, with guided tours, a museum and period reenactments but you will also find nature areas, a boat launch, picnic area, beaches, and the Mobile Bay Ferry that will take you across the mouth of the bay to Dauphin Island.
